The Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Busitema University, Arapai campus is partnering with the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) to implement a project titled “Waste to Wealth: Using innovative gender-responsive business models to turn organic market waste into organic fertilizer and animal feeds (WAWE)” with funding from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The overall aim of this project is to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by tackling the challenge of organic waste management in the urban markets of Nairobi and Kiambu in Kenya, and Soroti in Uganda, where up to 40% of fruits and vegetables are wasted, reaching 60% during the rainy seasons. The Project seeks to recruit a Project Assistant (Insectary Attendant), to support the Biowaste Recycling Unit activities.

Candidate Academic Qualifications

  • Honours Bachelor of Science in agriculture from an accredited University
  • Diploma in Agriculture is an added advantage

Work Experience

  • Work experience of at least two years, preferably with donor funded projects
  • Demonstrated experience in technology dissemination and farmer training
  • Business development experience, preferably in the NGO or private sector
  • Demonstrated computer application knowledge
  • Practical experience with insect rearing is an added advantage
