Main Purpose of the Job
To execute investment projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and in line with regulatory and quality standards. The Senior Investments Officer plays a pivotal role in translating strategic plans into operational success.
Duties and Responsibilities
Geological Assessment and Resource Evaluation
- Conduct geological assessments and reviews of investment projects involving mineral and natural resource development.
- Analyse geological reports, exploration data, feasibility studies, and technical surveys to assess resource potential and project viability.
- Provide technical advice on geological conditions, resource estimates, and extraction feasibility during project planning and implementation.
- Support due diligence processes by reviewing geological studies, exploration data, and mineral resource estimates for potential investments.
- Supervise, mentor, and train junior geologists
Cadaster Portal Maintenance and Management
- Serve as the institution's primary administrator and focal point for cadaster portal access, user management, and data submissions.
- Ensure all the institution's held mineral licenses, land leases, exploration permits, and project boundaries are accurately digitized, georeferenced, and uploaded to the portal
- Conduct regular audits of portal data to verify consistency with physical documents, field surveys, and internal GIS databases
- Monitor license status, compliance deadlines, and reporting obligations; generate alerts for renewal windows or statutory submissions
- Support integration of remote sensing data, geological maps, and infrastructure layers to enhance spatial decision-making
- Provide training and guidance to the institution's staff on portal navigation, registration procedures, and data submission protocols
Project Implementation and Technical Oversight
- Support the implementation of approved resource-based projects by ensuring geological and technical considerations are integrated into project execution.
- Monitor exploration, drilling, and resource development activities to ensure compliance with approved geological plans and industry standards.
- Provide expert geological guidance during site development, mineral extraction planning, and related technical activities.
- Work closely with engineers, geologists, and technical consultants to ensure projects are implemented according to geological and technical specifications.
Compliance with Geological and Environmental Regulations
- Ensure that projects comply with national geological, mining, environmental, and natural resource regulations.
- Support the review of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and geological risk assessments for resource-based investments.
- Monitor adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements governing exploration and mineral resource development.
Procurement and Technical Support
- Provide geological input in the procurement of specialized technical services, including exploration surveys, drilling services, and geological consultancy.
- Review technical specifications for geological equipment, surveys, and exploration programs to ensure quality and suitability.
- Support the evaluation of technical proposals submitted by geological consultants and contractors.
Monitoring, Reporting and Technical Documentation
- Prepare technical reports on geological findings, exploration progress, and resource development activities.
- Monitor implementation of geological activities and ensure accurate documentation of resource data and project milestones.
- Provide regular updates to management on technical progress, risks, and opportunities related to geological projects.
Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination
- Liaise with government agencies, authorities, mining companies, and technical consultants on resource-based investment projects.
- Collaborate with internal teams including; investments, legal, finance to support effective implementation of projects.
- Participate in technical meetings, site inspections, and stakeholder engagements related to mineral and geological projects.
Risk Management and Technical Due Diligence
- Identify and assess risks associated with resource-based investments, including exploration uncertainty, resource depletion, and technical feasibility.
- Support the preparation of technical risk mitigation plans to ensure successful implementation of geological projects.
- Contribute geological expertise during investment appraisal and post-implementation monitoring.
Requirements
Minimum Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, Mining Geology, or a related field.
- Certification in a relevant professional body will be considered as an added advantage
Desired Qualification:
- Postgraduate qualification in Geology, Mineral Resources Management, Mining Engineering, or Project Management
Experience:
- Six (6) years of experience in a similar role.
- Expertise in overseeing complex projects
