DHL Global Forwarding has an opening for a Road Freight Trainee in Nairobi, Kenya. To support the Senior Road Freight Specialist in processing, managing, and completing customer shipments while undergoing structured training to understand the end-to-end road freight and transit operations within the business unit.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative Support: Assist in managing and updating transit shipments via the CargoWise system under direct supervision.
  • Documentation: Support the team in securing and organizing essential shipping documents, including Delivery Orders and Guarantee Forms.
  • Reporting: Assist in the preparation and submission of daily transit reports for existing customers.
  • Financial Administration: Support the billing process by ensuring shipment files are organized for timely month-end billing and helping with the provision of disbursements.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Assist in follow-ups with local authorities (KRA/KPA/CFS/KEBs) and shipping lines to facilitate the release of transit road shipments.
  • Internal Coordination: Support inter-departmental communication and collaborate with colleagues to help achieve shared RFR targets.
  • Compliance: Perform all assigned tasks in strict compliance with Company Policies, Procedures, and Instructions.

Qualification Requirements

  • Requirement: University qualification or College qualification (completed or in progress).
  • Minimum: 0 years; this is an entry-level learning role, though an interest in the logistics forwarding industry is advantageous.
  • Knowledge: Basic interest in or introductory knowledge of road freight and multimodal transport.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to provide timely and clear information.
  • Attitude: Eagerness to learn the DHL system, industry workings, and port operations in Mombasa.
  • Skills: High level of personal organization and the ability to follow structured sequences of steps.
  • Analysis: Ability to break down basic processes into component parts and seek out necessary information.
  • Customer Orientation: Desire to assist customers and internal stakeholders in an efficient and friendly manner.
  • Planning & Organizing: Ability to schedule time effectively and use efficient work tools to meet learning milestones.
  • Teamwork: Works cooperatively with the Senior Specialist and the wider team to achieve collective objectives.
  • Technology/IT Systems: Ability to navigate and prepare reports and have skillset for office programs and ERP software.
