Job Description and Responsibilities

The Intern will provide IM support to the SLSC Cluster by assisting with the development of data collection tools/processes, data management, analysis, and information products essential for coordinated responses in countries where the cluster is present.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Support the roll‑out and maintenance of digital platforms for data collection, site monitoring, and reporting, including solutions built with Microsoft Power Apps, SharePoint, and dashboarding in Power BI where relevant.
  • Support the adaptation of software tools and scripts using a mix of conventional programming techniques and Microsoft services such as Power Automate for workflow automation or integration between data systems—based on Cluster operational needs.
  • Support the implementation of machine learning or AI methods to enhance data analysis—leveraging appropriate technologies such as Azure AI, AI Builder, or other tools that support forecasting, automated extraction, and pattern detection.
  • Compile, aggregate, and validate data from multiple sources (including SharePoint lists, Excel/OneDrive files, partner submissions, and external databases) to produce standardized information products such as maps, dashboards, reports, and factsheets.
  • Provide technical support and capacity building to Cluster partners on information management tools, GIS platforms, and where applicable, the use of Microsoft 365 solutions (e.g., Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, Teams-integrated tools).
  • Ensure the application of organizational data standards and protection protocols, overseeing the quality, security, and compatibility of operational datasets.
  • Support the disaggregation of data (gender, age, vulnerability, etc.) and ensure information outputs are designed using accessible formats, including the appropriate configuration of digital forms and dashboards built on Microsoft technologies.
  • Participate in Cluster initiatives, including trainings, working groups, and technical fora, contributing expertise on information management and on digital tools based on Microsoft 365 when relevant.
  • Contribute to the development of situational modelling or analytical tools, using a combination of established data analysis methods and Microsoft-based analytical environments such as Power BI or Azure services when appropriate.
  • Assist in the preparation of brief summary reports documenting lessons learned, system performance, and recommendations using collaborative tools such as SharePoint or Teams for repository and dissemination.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned.

Training Components and Learning Elements

The Intern will:

  • Gain experience working in an international, multicultural environment within the United Nations system, with direct exposure to global PSEAH priorities and coordination mechanisms.
  • Gain experience in organization, coordination, and management activities related to strengthening PSEAH compliance and systems across IOM.
  • Develop a strong understanding of IOM’s PSEAH architecture at global, regional, and country levels, including how policies, reporting lines, and operational responsibilities function in practice.
  • Build experience in drafting, research, and knowledge management on PSEAH.
  • Acquire technical knowledge of IOM’s PSEAH policies, minimum standards, guidance materials, tools, and learning packages, and understand how these are implemented in IOM country offices.
  • Gain hands‑on experience supporting the development and review of PSEAH strategies, workplans, briefs, and other institutional documents.
  • Access a wide range of PSEAH‑related and general professional development courses available to all IOM personnel.
  • Have the opportunity to interact regularly with colleagues at Headquarters, as well as with Regional and Country Office staff working on PSEAH, gaining insight into operational realities and global coordination mechanisms.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education
  • Applicants must have completed a graduate degree (master’s or equivalent) in International Relations, Social Sciences, Law, Human Rights, Public Administration, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or a related field.; or,
  • University studies must have been completed within the last year.
Experience
  • Demonstrated interest in Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Sexual Harassment (PSEAH), safeguarding, protection, gender-based violence, child protection, accountability to affected populations, or related thematic areas;
  • Experience (including internships, volunteering, or academic projects) in administrative support, coordination, research, drafting, or organizing meetings/events is an asset; and,
  • Exposure to multicultural or international environments, whether through study, work, internships, or volunteering, is desirable.
Skills
  • Strong organizational and administrative abilities, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to draft briefs, meeting notes, talking points, and summaries clearly and concisely;
  • Ability to synthesize information and conduct basic desk research;
  • Familiarity with PSEAH concepts, policies, and learning materials or willingness to quickly learn and apply them;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to manage shared digital workspaces (Teams, SharePoint, etc.); and,
  • Fluency in English is required; working knowledge of French, Arabic, Spanish or another IOM official language is an advantage.
