Compliance Officer

About the Role

The Compliance Officer in the Enterprise Risk and Compliance Department supports the development and implementation of compliance frameworks and policies across the Shoprite Group of Companies. This role assists in ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations and internal policies by supporting senior compliance professionals and providing compliance guidance to business units. The role reports to the Group Compliance Manager.

What You Bring

• Essential: LLB or B Com Law degree, or related field
• Two to four years experience as a compliance officer or similar role
• Strong understanding of applicable laws and regulations within the industry
• Exposure to governance, compliance, and risk practices within the context of frameworks, policies, procedures, and guidelines
• Understanding and exposure to creating and managing compliance-related knowledge assets for alignment, learning, and guidance within a central repository (essential)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite

What You'll Do

• Compliance Monitoring & Assurance
• Conduct compliance reviews and monitoring activities
• Identify compliance gaps, control weaknesses, and areas of non-compliance
• Maintain compliance monitoring records and document findings
• Escalate identified compliance risks and recommend corrective actions
• Track remediation plans to ensure compliance issues are appropriately addressed
• Risk Identification & Assessment
• Support the execution of compliance risk assessments across business areas
• Analyse compliance-related risks and evaluate potential business impacts
• Contribute to the identification of emerging regulatory and compliance risks
• Assist in developing risk mitigation recommendations and action plans
• Maintain compliance risk registers and supporting documentation
• Regulatory Compliance Management
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments relevant to the organisation
• Assess the potential impact of regulatory changes on business operations
• Support the implementation of compliance controls and processes to address changing requirements
• Contribute to compliance reviews to ensure alignment with applicable laws and industry standards
• Policy & Governance Support
• Support the development, review, and maintenance of compliance policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines
• Ensure compliance documentation remains current and aligned with regulatory requirements
• Facilitate policy awareness and implementation within business areas
• Provide guidance on the application of compliance policies and procedures
• Compliance Training & Awareness
• Assist in the development and review of compliance training material and awareness initiatives
• Promote understanding of compliance obligations across business functions
• Provide compliance-related guidance and support to stakeholders
• Contribute to initiatives that strengthen a culture of compliance and ethical conduct
• Compliance Investigations & Reporting
• Investigate suspected compliance breaches and incidents
• Gather, analyse, and document evidence relating to compliance matters
• Prepare reports detailing findings, recommendations, and corrective actions
• Maintain accurate and auditable compliance records
• Stakeholder Engagement & Advisory
• Partner with business stakeholders to promote compliance awareness and effective control practices
• Provide specialist compliance advice and support on business initiatives and operational activities
• Build and maintain effective working relationships across the organisation
• Facilitate the timely resolution of compliance-related queries and issues
