Visit our website: www.rclfoods.com Purpose: To perform planned, preventative, and breakdown mechanical maintenance on plant equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production operations, while supporting equipment availability, asset care, and compliance with safety and food standards. RCL Foods is seeking a Fitter to join our Groceries Division based in Randfontein. The role reports into the Engineering Superintendent.

Minimum Requirements:

• Qualified Artisan (Fitter) with Trade Test - Essential
• NQF Level 4 Grade 12 or Matric Equivalent Certificates or N (C) V Level 4 - Essential

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Mechanical Maintenance & Repairs: Perform planned, preventative, and corrective mechanical maintenance in line with schedules and job cards. Diagnose mechanical faults, carry out repairs, and restore equipment to safe operating condition. Respond promptly to breakdowns to minimise production downtime. Conduct mechanical assembly, installation, alignment, and commissioning of equipment and components. Carry out inspections and functional testing to ensure reliability and quality of repairs.
• Preventative Maintenance & Reliability: Execute preventative maintenance tasks aligned with asset care and reliability strategies. Identify recurring faults and participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives. Support equipment uptime, availability, and lifecycle optimisation. Monitor equipment performance and recommend modifications to improve reliability. Continuous Improvement - contribute to world class initiatives.
• Spares & Inventory Management: Identify, request, and manage critical spares to avoid downtime. Maintain accurate records of spares usage and report shortages. Assist in developing and maintaining spare parts inventory levels
• Safety, Health, Environment & Food Safety (SHEQ): Comply with all safety, health, environmental, and food safety policies, procedures, and legal requirements. Apply permits-to-work, lock-out/tag-out, and safe work practices during maintenance activities. Ensure mechanical safety devices and guards are functional. Maintain high housekeeping standards in workshops and plant areas. Report hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly. Compliance & Audits - Assist during internal and external audits (food safety, quality, safety).
• Documentation & Reporting: Accurately complete job cards, inspection reports, and maintenance records. Capture maintenance activities in the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System). Provide clear shift handovers and communicate outstanding work or equipment condition. Support audit requirements by maintaining accurate documentation.
• Tools, Equipment & Asset Care: Use tools, equipment, and spares responsibly and correctly. Maintain tools in serviceable condition and report defects. Protect company assets and ensure proper care of machinery.
• Energy & Sustainability: Support energy efficiency and sustainability projects by maintaining equipment optimally.
• Emergency Response: Act as first responder for mechanical emergencies and support contingency planning.
• Teamwork & Operational Support: Collaborate with fellow artisans, operators, and supervisors to achieve production targets. Provide technical guidance and support to machine minders and operators. Assist production teams with equipment changeovers and process adjustments. Participate in cross-functional problem-solving teams. Training & Development - mentor apprentices and junior fitters, sharing technical knowledge and safe practices.
