Job Description
ACACIA GROUP LIMITED
Human Resources — Talent & People
Job Description: HR Business Partner
Full-time · Kampala, Uganda · Hybrid
Job title HR Business Partner (HRBP)
Department Human Resources
Reports to Head of Human Resources
Location Kampala, Uganda (hybrid — 3 days on-site)
Grade / level Mid–senior (individual contributor)
Business unit served Commercial & Operations division (~350 staff)
About the role
Acacia Group is a diversified Ugandan company operating across financial services, agribusiness and logistics. We are hiring an HR Business Partner to sit alongside the leadership of our Commercial & Operations division and turn business strategy into people strategy.
This is a true partnering role, not an administrative one. You will be the trusted people advisor to line managers — coaching them through team, performance and employee-relations challenges; shaping how the division is structured and resourced; and using workforce data to make the case for change. You will balance the needs of the business with fair, compliant and consistent treatment of every employee.
Key responsibilities
Stakeholder & leadership advisory
- Act as the primary HR point of contact and trusted advisor to divisional leaders and line managers.
- Coach and challenge managers on people decisions — team design, promotions, difficult conversations and performance management.
- Translate the division’s commercial goals into a practical people plan and influence leaders to act on it.
Employee relations & case management
- Manage employee-relations cases end to end — grievances, disciplinaries, absence and performance concerns — fairly, consistently and in line with policy and Ugandan employment law.
- Advise managers on risk, precedent and the right process; keep clear documentation for every case.
- Spot patterns across cases and address the root causes, not just the incidents.
Organisational design & workforce planning
- Partner with leaders on organisation design — restructures, new role design, spans of control and workforce planning.
- Forecast resourcing needs with the business and plan headcount against budget.
- Support change and restructuring with clear communication and a fair, well-managed process.
HR data & decision-making
- Use people metrics — turnover, absence, engagement, time-to-hire — to diagnose issues and recommend action.
- Build the evidence base for people decisions and present it clearly to non-HR leaders.
- Track the impact of people interventions and report on what worked.
Employment practice & compliance
- Ensure people practices across the division comply with Ugandan employment law and company policy.
- Keep managers current on policy changes and coach them to apply policy consistently and fairly.
- Champion diversity, fairness and a psychologically safe working environment.
Person specification
Essential
- Experience: 5+ years in HR, with at least 2 years in a generalist, advisory or business-partnering role.
- Employee relations: demonstrable track record of independently handling grievances, disciplinaries and casework.
- Organisation design: hands-on involvement in a restructure, workforce plan or significant role-design exercise.
- Data literacy: comfortable using people data to build and present a recommendation to leaders.
- Employment practice: sound working knowledge of Ugandan employment law; CIPD (or equivalent) qualification or active study.
- Behaviours: credible with senior stakeholders, able to influence and to hold a firm, fair line under pressure.
Desirable
- Experience in financial services, agribusiness or logistics.
- Exposure to HR systems / HRIS and dashboarding.
- Experience supporting change or transformation programmes.
