Job Description

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • Served in the grade of Assistant Fisheries Officer I for a minimum of three (3) years;
  • Diploma in either Fisheries Management, Natural Resource Management or an equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution; and
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Undertaking statistical data analysis and compilation;
  • Disseminating fisheries research information; monitoring, control and surveillance of the fisheries resources;
  • Promoting fish marketing and value addition;
  • Arranging on farm trials, field days and exchange visits;
  • Training staff and fishers in spawning, rearing, and harvesting methods and use of related equipment;
  • Training staff on feed formulation and production;
  • Observing fish ponds and fish to detect diseases and promoting fish marketing and value addition.
  • Monitoring water quality for signs of pollution;
  • Carrying out frame surveys;
  • Undertaking catch assessment; carrying out fisheries related licensing activities; and enforcing fisheries regulations;
  • Inspecting fish handling facilities at fish landing sites, markets and farms; and undertaking frame survey.
